OUR
VALUES
We have enough clothing on this planet to clothe the next eight generations. Due to over-consumption, we’re still making new clothes. When clothes reach the end of their life-cycle a great creativity challenge is posed. How can you make something new with a limited amount of resources? We spotlight UK-Based creators who transform old materials into something new. Additionally, we teach mending, making, and upcycling. Currently 9 out of 10 Brits don’t know how to sew on a button. We’re on a mission to change that.
Our solution to textile waste is a circular economic business model. Rather than a linear model where people buy and discard, we’ve developed a free clothing exchange so resources can be kept within our community. We also want to help the almost 1 in 10 Brits who live in clothing poverty. We do so by partnering with charity partners to give the same tokens people receive for swapping to those who need them to remove the stigma.
We exist to expose the neo-colonial textile waste management model. The anti-fast fashion industry focuses primarily on where clothes are made. We are trying to raise awareness about the end of life of clothes. There is no away when you give clothes away. One market in Ghana that represents regionally markets globally receives 15 million garments a week, with 40% going directly to landfill. Western governments leverage trade agreements to force formerly-colonised nations to pay for our textile waste.
